Flavored & Scented Sugar

A repost from the Witch’s Kitchen blog, which will soon go away.

Flavored, scented sugars can be be used in a cup of tea or for baking. If you use them for baking, it’s best to use them in simple baked goods – such as sugar cookies – where their flavor and aroma can shine. They’re super easy to make, and make a lovely gift when made in an attractive glass jar.

For lavender sugar, put about a half-inch of sugar into the bottom of your jar. Add a thin layer of dried, organic lavender buds. Add another layer of sugar, then lavender. Continue to alternate layers, finishing with a sugar layer about a half-inch from the top of the jar. Cover the jar and allow to sit for several weeks before using.

Instead of the lavender, you can use:

Vanilla beans
Cinnamon sticks
Scented geranium leaves
Dried citrus peels
Organic rose petals
