I read this in a magazine recently – I don’t recall which one – and I had the opportunity to try it this morning. Instead of cutting off the tops of strawberries, which can result in not getting the most berry bang, try this:
Pull off the green tops, then use a drinking straw to poke a whole down the middle of the strawberry. Sort of like coring an apple. Very little of the strawberry is actually removed, but you get rid of the ucky part where the stem was.
One thing… thicker straws will work better. Or, if you have thinner straws, you can poke from the bottom instead of the top. Just be sure you have it lined up properly.
