D Is for Desperation

De Is for Desperation

De Is for Desperation

Let me begin by saying this: I do not collect decorative spoons.

For the 2008 ABC-Along, I wrote about the cow cookie jar we bought on our honeymoon in Aruba. I briefly mentioned that the cow was purchased on the last day of our trip, when we suddenly realized that we hadn’t bought any souvenirs the whole time we were there. It wasn’t until I was cleaning out a drawer in the kitchen last week that I remembered that we also bought this, the decorative spoon.

Have I mentioned that I don’t collect decorative spoons? I just grabbed this thing in an act of desperation so that I would have some record of our honeymoon. Some proof that we actually went to Aruba, since we also weren’t really photo-snappers in those days and have very few photos from that trip. I’m sure that I thought it was some sort of ironic purchase somehow, but looking back, it was just stupid. Now I have this decorative spoon cluttering up the kitchen and I don’t know what to do with it. Maybe I should display it with my ironic collection of shot glasses.

D Is for Done

Done, done, done! As in finished. Complete. No more!

Yesterday I got official word from my doctor that I can stop using the wound vac. It’s impossible to say how happy this makes me. Over the last 9 weeks, I have grown to despise this machine.

There’s still a small hole, but it’s not deep or long, so I just have a wet-to-dry dressing on now. I have to change it myself twice a day until the skin grows over it, which should take a couple of weeks.

I’m just going to consider this another tool in my kit for the end times or the zombie apocalypse: wound care knowledge. Between the knitting, soapmaking, and now this, I’ll have several skills to fall back on when society collapses, be it from rogue computers or zombies.

But I think I digressed a little…

D is for Done! And I couldn’t be happier.

D is for Dock

…the dock where I’ve been spending my days.

D is for...

We’ve been in the Florid Keys since Sunday. It’s really lovely here, and Scott and I have spent a lot of time on this dock behind the house, taking photos of the various water birds and the dolphins next door.

We’ve also spent time on the dock looking at the stars, which is something we can’t do in Da Bronx very well. The first night we did that, I saw a bona fide UFO. Honest to goodness and for real.

It was an object, it was flying, and I couldn’t identify it. Therefore, a UFO.

It was three yellow lights in the sky. They were in the shape of a triangle, and the lights seemed to be spinning really fast. Whatever it was came from the east and flew overhead before heading out over the Gulf. Scott, of course, now keeps asking me if I believe. He does. I believe I saw something I couldn’t identify, but aliens? Nope.

D is for...

D is also for dolphins, of which I unfortunately do not have a photo. But there was a dolphin research center right next door to the house we were staying in, and we could walk out onto the dock and see them swimming free in their pens. We listened to them squeak and whistle all day and into the night. It was awesome.

All in all, an excellent trip. I’m writing this from the Ft. Lauderdale airport as we wait to, regretfully, fly home.

I have an E all ready to go in a day or two! So my next letter won’t be late.
